Hello World

Hello, people of Planet Earth. Guess who? It's Iyad. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Bani Muhamad Iyad. I have lots to share about myself so I have a long list of it below. Feel free to have a look and see if there's something in common with you.

1. I'm currently a student at Temasek Polytechnic

I'm now a Year 2(2015/16) student at the School of Informatics and IT studying a course on Mobile and Network Services(MNS for short). So, basically, till today, I've studied Java programming, networking, configuring wireless networks and also developing mobile apps. But know this. I'm not that type of a person that knows and masters all that. I'm not really that good at it. I always seek help from my lecturers, my tutors and my coursemates. Let's just say that I'm being spoon-feed for this. But at least, as time goes by, I get the idea of the subject, one by one. Plus, I could be one of those smart alecks (I have to admit, I really frankly am....if you don't know what that means, it defines as a person who is irritating because they behave as if they know everything). No wonder I can't have friends there, Now then I realised as I typed this post. But that's okay. We learn from mistakes. Apart from my course, I don't just learn those, I even learnt a handful of some Cross-Disciplinary Subjects at school. They are like electives outside my course. Last semester, I took Basics of Nutrition and Basics of e-Entrepreneurship. Then during my previous school vacation, I took a Vacation subject on Heritage, Museums and Trails. These subjects can somewhat pull up GPA grades for students, depending on the effort it took to master it and then passing the following assessments at school for the following subjects. It's also about time management because the Cross-Disciplinary subjects can be the same as the diploma subjects in terms of having exams, group works and tough case studies so it somehow add up to deadlines to meet during the school semester. But what's being a poly student without some CCAs? One funny fact about me is that I registered myself to several CCAs at school, mostly event based ones to allow flexibility to earn CCA points for qualification for CCA awards and contribute to the portfolio for students upon graduation, Till today, I've got 140 points since Year 1. Believe me, it's not that easy, Perhaps, I can list down the CCAs I'm in:
  • TP Cliquers (where I get to be student ambassadors and explore secondary schools in islandwide Singapore and share with students about life at Temasek Polytechnic)
  • OMEP (a CCA on Early Childhood activities. For this CCA, I'm mostly active on StoryJoy activities at Tampines Regional Library occasionally since Year 1)
  • TP-CD Lionhearters (I get more involved in activities on Civil Defence, mostly from SCDF like the Community Emergency Preparedness Programme, being supporters for Singapore Global Firefighters & Paramedics Challenge 2014, etc)
  • MNS Student Interest Group (a CCA consisting of MNS coursemates about organising activities and events to bond together like MNS Day, workshops on programming, etc)
  • TEATRO (a drama theatre CCA with trainings to attend every week at school, I get to mingle with some dramatic people, get involved in theatre/film productions, learn about acting, etc)
  • BP-Mentors (every Saturday, I go to a primary school and help out young students on their studies like Maths and Science, then after that, we play games together)
But the important thing is that education is important and I really need to somehow learn and absorb this knowledge on Mobile and Network Services and apply them to the outside world. But likewise, it takes time so hopefully, things will turn out well. (Spoiler alert: I now got GPA of 2.64, waiting for this sem's results, hoping to be good news!)

2. I'm now a part time UNIQLO staff

You heard me....UNIQLO staff. And the first thing that comes to your mind is that I might have staff discount and you want to take advantage of it to do your shopping at UNIQLO. Well, just trying to keep it short and simple, I was originally a part time UNIQLO staff at Changi City Point since April so I have learnt about its standards in terms of doing cash wrap, fitting room, sales floor and replenishment. And I was among the team to build up this new outlet there so we were setting up the shelves, the manequins, everything for the outlet itself and I have to say that it isn't easy to build up an outlet like that. But then I got transferred to Tampines 1 since July due to the outlet's expansion. Believe me, I have lots of tales to share here. But I really am not having the intention to leak information about the company of UNIQLO as it could get me in trouble for doing that on the Internet. But before I was in UNIQLO, I had working experience in Bossini and Cotton On last year. So I had the rough idea of doing my job at a fashion outlet. The best part of working at UNIQLO is that there are rotating shifts, standards to follow, opportunities to upgrade your skills, free uniforms, staff discount(can't tell you how much, it's a secret). So if you happen to come over to my outlet, prepare for your greetings from yours truly.

3. I'm a resident of Eunos Crescent

All my life, I've been living in Eunos Crescent throughout my life from birth till today. Well, at first, it's at one flat but then a few years later, my family and I moved to another flat nearby around the neighbourhood and lived there till today. Things got convenient around my neighbourhood, like a provision shop down my flat, a bus stop nearby to take buses to school and to go outdoors, Eunos MRT station, and a whole bunch of shops to go to meet my needs like barber shop, supermarket, electronics shop, clinics and a hawker centre. During my primary and secondary school days, I always cycle around there to buy bottled drinks and light snacks and groceries like epok epok and beancurds, and to maintain my bicycle at the bicycle shop. It's always adventurous to cycle around the neighbourhood those days. Now, I occasionally cycle around to buy groceries and food for my family since I started polytechnic education.

4. I'm part of the Bani family

About my family tree, I am the second child given birth by my parents among the four kids in my family, consisting a young brother(3rd child, Sec 2 NA student at Manjusri Secondary School), a young sister(4th child, Pri 3 student at Eunos Primary School), an elder sister(1st child, graduate of Temasek Polytechinc, Clean Energy, currently a part time Cotton On staff) and me. Together with my father who is now a part time despatch man and my mother who is a homemaker. that's my family. One interesting fact about my parents' marriage, my mother and her sister ended up matchmaking with my father and his brother getting them married. So to clear that doubt, my mother got married to my father while my mother's late sister(a.k.a aunt) got married to my father's brother(a.k.a uncle). I know right?! So it's not just my parents and my siblings in our family tree, it gets bigger for each of our relatives to get married, and then the in-laws are part of us. So for every Raya season, it can take up to 2-3 weeks to meet our family and relatives. I assume one of the readers do know who Bani Farook is? (He's my late uncle and he's a musician, plus the winner from Talentime 1988....read it up here and feel free to watch him perform at Talentime 1988 then, skip to 41:40 . Spoiler alert: He's good looking and he had a great voice.)

I once visited my religious teacher's house for Raya this year and when I mentioned my first name, Bani, the husband of the teacher happens to know Bani Farook and I was so surprised that he still remembered him by his first name. He also mentioned that he happened to stay around the same neighbourhood as him at Eunos at their past times. It's such a small world here. So that's my big family and one friendly advice, address me with my name, Iyad because it will confuse you with my other relatives in my family using my first name Bani. And one weird fact about my full name is that it is Bani Muhamad Iyad bin Bani Muhamad Malaysia. I know it's long plus my late grandfather named my father Bani Muhamad Malaysia and I totally have no clue about it.

5. I'm an alumnus of Eunos Primary School(2004-2009) and Manjusri Secondary School(2010-2013)

Wherever you are, thank you for your support in my life and helping me go though my PSLE and my O Levels. Another interesting fact is that during my cohort in both schools, I am always the "well-known" student among the staff and students because at every assembly, when they asked for volunteers, I always raised my hand and went for it, That's how I gain my popularity there and got more well known as I went to school. I even performed on stage a few times in primary and secondary school, like Racial Harmony Day 2005, International Friendship Day 2006, Teachers Day 2007 and lastly Manjusri Idol 2013. Look at my performance below. Promise me you won't laugh. It's a Hatsune Miku anime dance I learnt from YouTube. Try comparing my dance to the video I followed.
